BUFFALO, NY, December 21, 2010 /Books PR News/ -- Mary Beth P. Scumaci, Clinical Assistant Professor, Coordinator of Instructional Technology & Assessment Coordinator for Medaille College's School of Education, has been recognized as a VIP member by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of academia.

Ms. Scumaci is a professional educator with 16 years of industry experience. In her position with Medaille College, she is charged with managing online education programs, developing and implementing orientation programs for students and faculty, overseeing assessments for the School of Education, rendering advisory services for the Education Graduate Student Society, consulting with other departments for online programs, training faculty and students, helping teacher candidates achieve their certification goals, teaching children's literature, mathematics, and science and technology methods, instructing online courses including "Research in Education" and "Teacher as Researcher," and conducting presentations in the areas of online learning and local history. Prior to joining Medaille College, Ms. Scumaci worked for several years as an elementary school teacher in Monticello, Goshen and Lancaster, NY. She is a co-author with her husband, Peter, and her friend and colleague, Julianna Fiddler-Woite, of the recently published book titled, "Western New York and the Gilded Age." As a lifelong resident of Western New York, she views this project as a way to make local history come alive for children and teachers.

A love of working with children inspired Ms. Scumaci to become involved in her profession. She considers being invited by the graduate students of Medaille College to be the adviser for the School of Education Graduate Student Society, which is a student-run organization that focuses on scholarship, school spirit, community service and social networking, to be the highlight of her career thus far, and she attributes her success to hard work, dedication and the influence of her parents, Kenneth and Virginia Paulin, who have been her teachers and mentors throughout her life. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Elementary Education, with concentrations in Mathematics and Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Psychology, from SUNY Geneseo. Ms. Scumaci is a blackboard certified trainer who holds certification to teach children (K-6) in the State of New York. She is a President-Elect of the Niagara Frontier Reading Council (2010-2011), and maintains affiliation with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association and its Technology Committee, The Sloan Consortium, and the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. In recognition of her work, she received the Medaille College Faculty Service Award and a grant from the Library of Congress.

Looking ahead, Ms. Scumaci hopes to obtain a doctoral degree in the field of education. She also aspires to continue to improve her own teaching skills, and to share her teaching and learning experiences with others so that she can help them develop their own teaching philosophy, skills and best teaching practices.
