Cambridge Who's Who Names Ruth J.K. Pratt Professional of the Year in Education
Ruth J.K. Pratt distinguished for professional contributions to church and religious affairs, education and teaching, and community service and involvement
BALTIMORE, MD, April 30, 2010 /Books PR News/ -- Ruth J.K. Pratt, Adjunct Professor at Coppin State University, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
Ruth J.K. Pratt, Ed.D. has been teaching reading at Coppin State University for 10 years. She started her career as an elementary school teacher and then became a curriculum specialist. She was the first African American assistant administrator as well as the first African American principal of predominately white elementary schools. She previously served as the chief educational officer to the superintendent of the Baltimore City Public School System, administrative assistant for community relations in the Office of the Superintendent, associate professor at Morgan State College, and an instructor at Catonsville Community College, serving handicapped adults in the People Encouraging People program.
After her retirement, she developed the Retired Educators Activating Change Today 'REACT' program, assisted teachers and students at Baltimore City Public Schools, and served as a restructuring implementation specialist, mentoring an elementary school principal. She has won over 50 plaques and trophies in her 60 years of service in education and the community including The Thurgood Marshall's Legacy Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (2008), an award for Promoting the Spirit of Caring and Sharing in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area from The Fullwood Foundation, Inc. (2006) and Acknowledgment for Excellence as a Distinguished Educator in Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2003-2004).
Ms. Pratt is an independent business owner of health and beauty products through the Amway Global Company and a licensed esthetician in the state of Maryland. She participated in the Ms. Maryland Senior America Pageant of 2003. She currently enjoys managing church and religious affairs, getting involved in community activities, and working with the Federal Education Department under Mr. Arne Duncan, United States Secretary of Education on behalf of minority students, African American boys in particular. Looking ahead, she hopes to write articles and books to share her rich life experiences and successes in education. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she attributes her success in life to the encouragement and support she receives from her parents, to outstanding dedicated teachers and to strong spiritual and community involvement.
