Phil Garland Sings In The Key Of Stanford Who's Who

    CANTERBURY, NEW ZEALAND, November 13, 2011 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Stanford Who's Who proudly welcomes Phil Garland to the distinguished ranks of leading professionals as a result of his magnificent work in music. Throughout his brilliant professional career, Mr. Garland has routinely demonstrated the passion, vision and perseverance necessary to be considered among the best.

Phil is a 50 year veteran of the music industry with 18 albums to his credit, serving as an icon ion the New Zealand folk music scene. He started his musical career in the early 1960's, performing with the rock and roll bands, The Saints and The Playboys. In 1962, Phil's song, Little Band of Gold was a #1 hit on the Coca Cola Hit Parade. His interest changed to folk music in 1964, and 1967 he started the Christchurch Folk Centre and founded the Christchurch Folk Music Club.

Mr. Garland still performs regularly throughout New Zealand and overseas. He hits the stage as a solo artist as well as leading Bush Telegraph and Shagroon. Over the course of his incredibly impressive career, he has also performed with other bands, such as the Canterbury Crutchings Bush and Ceilidh Band, and the Canterbury Bush Orchestra. Phil has had numerous hits throughout the years, including Down a Country Road I Know and Tuapeka Gold.

Phil is also the author of the Faces in the Firelight, which is a collection of songs about pioneers, gold miners, drifters, rogues and scoundrels, shearers, gum diggers and moonshiners, as well as a colorful collection of tall stories, toasts and ditties. In addition, Mr. Garland released the book, The Singing Kiwi, which is a collection of 120 folk songs offering evidence of his lifetime of effort collecting, singing, writing and recording folk music.
